Mia Hamm is widely considered the greatest female soccer player in history. Mia played for the United States Women's National Team for 17 years becoming one of the greatest female athletes of any sport or era on the field and one of the most popular athletes off it. Mia won the Women's World Cup in 1991 and 1999 and two Olympic gold medales in 1996 and 2004. She held the record for most international goals scored until June 2013, when her record was broken by fellow American Abby Wambach. The 2001 and 2002 FIFA World Player of the Year Mia is also a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame and was the first woman inducted into the World Football Hall of Fame.
